The 2008 Cedar Rapids Flood:
A Community Transformed

On June 13, 2008, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, experienced the most devastating flood in its history.

The Cedar River crested at a record 31.12 feet, surpassing the previous record by over 11 feet. This catastrophic event impacted more than 10 square miles of the city, affecting approximately 1,100 city blocks and displacing over 10,000 residents.

In the wake of the disaster, LAP-AID was formed to coordinate relief, recovery, and rebuilding.

More than 70 organizations collaborated to bring approximately $20.5 million in resources and services to Linn County through the following efforts:
